Awards: presented annually to members of 68 (IC&CY) Signal Squadron
The Squadron have traditionally awarded four awards at the annual dinner, for the best contribution to the Squadron, best recruit, best field solider, and best in trade.
William Hine Award: Best all-round contribution to the Squadron during the preceding year. Awarded to: Officer, soldier or civilian or permanent staff. A silver salver (presented by the DOSC) plus a keeper trophy (normally an engraved glass mug) and a cash sum. The award was formerly known as the Jack Slevin award. Provided by The Devils Own Sergeant's Club.

Major Adrian Pery (son of the late Lord Limerick) invited to present the award. Cartwright Cup: The best ‘Field Soldier’ i.e. exhibiting the highest standard of soldiering skills combined with comradeship during the preceding year. Awarded to: Soldier. A keeper trophy (normally an engraved glass mug) and a cash sum. Original cup to be displayed on presentation. Major James Cartwright invited to present the award. Provided by The Trustees/donor.

Awarded to: Soldier. Principally communication skills but could be MT or clerical. A keeper trophy (normally an engraved glass mug) and a cash sum. Original cup to be displayed on presentation. Presented by the father of Major Jeremy Fern TD DL. Major Fern commanded the Squadron from 1994 to 1996 and continues to endow this prize. HISTORY of the trophies:
William Hine Award: this was originally the Jack Slevin Award having been initiated by a bequest from Jack Slevin who was Secretary of the Association in the 1980s. It was re-named in memory of Signaller William Hine who was sadly killed whilst serving with the Squadron during a practice ride for the Lord Mayor’s Show 2001, and is now marked by a silver salver presented by the DOSC.
Earl of Limerick Cup: presented by Colonel The Earl of Limerick KBE who was the Squadron Honorary Colonel from 1993 to 2003 and whose portrait hangs in the ante-room in the Mess at Lincoln’s Inn.
Cartwright Cup: presented by Major James Cartwright TD who commanded the Squadron from 1990 to 1994. The original object of the award was stated as “The soldier with whom the OC would most like to share a trench.”
Fern Cup: Presented by the father of Major Jeremy Fern TD DL. Major Fern commanded the Squadron from 1994 to 1996 and continues to endow this prize.
The archive also records the following careers of winners of a prize for the Best Recruit:
1988 Best Recruit Sig “Rufus” McNeil. Promoted to Cpl and joined the Regular Army (RLC) followed by a meteoric rise and now a Brigadier.
1989 Best Recruit Sig Bridges.
1990 Best Recruit Sig Mercer. He was a solicitor with Farrer & Co. Subsequently he was commissioned into the Army Legal Service and served in various areas of conflict including Bosnia and achieved the rank of Lt Col.
